FFO: Sleeping Giant, Becoming The Archetype, Demon Hunter
When Sleeping Giant disbanded 5 years ago, they surely left behind a legacy of praise. Little did we know that that legacy would be passed down to another band, a band known as HolyName. SG vocalist Tommy Green, along with his friend Joe Holt, created this project back in 2021, and released individual singles that would later make it on their first full-length. Not only that, but the band got signed to Facedown Records, the label Sleeping Giant released three albums through. Even though Green focuses less on harsh vocals for HolyName and more on cleans, that does not stop the band from being full-on violent worship!
HolyName is the band’s debut album, and it is 12 songs of unwavering Christian faith. The congregational singing of the Rev Gang and the heavy-hitting instrumentals live in harmony with one another as they bring glory to some higher power. Not only that, but we get guest harsh vocals from some notable frontmen: Eric Gregson of xDeathstarx, Ryan Clark of Demon Hunter, Brook Reeves of Impending Doom, Michael Felker of Convictions, Joe Musten of Advent, and Danon Saylor of Nothing Left. With this release, HolyName redefines Christian metal and hardcore in a way that is truly unique. Other bands in the scene should take notice.
